No controller. I haven't figured out a lot of things yet. The only experience I have is with HO trains. I do have a couple IR controllers but I don't know how to match them to receivers. I think you are right about the parts from HK being in different locations.

Well to use an RC receiver you will need an RC controller that matches it, I'm no expert on that so I'm not sure if its just frequency or there is some kind of encoding. You might be able to say use your Infra Red controller with your picaxe to control your tractor. If you got an IR LED receiver and programmed your picaxe to be a IR reader then you could teach it the commands of your controllers. If you have a look at this arduino page you might get some ideas learn.adafruit.com/ir-sensor. Might be tricky to do, I've never tried it myself.

Thanks for that IR site and info. I thought about doing that but never got anywhere with it. After I sent my last reply I realized I do have a radio controller (transmitter) but the receivers are expensive and big. Maybe I can find something about how to build or match a receiver to it. The IR transmitters may be a better choice for me because they have joy sticks where the Radio doesn't. And now I have more info on how to do it. I just need to come up with a way to select the vehicle I want to control.
Still waiting for my tractor and while waiting I decided to use the two motors I have in a semi trailer tractor cab. Do you have any thoughts on how to drive the duel axles other then two motors? Bill

I'm not sure about building an RC reciever, it would probably be quite difficult but I have no experience so I don't know for sure. If you do it with IR you could program it to take commands from your tv remote as well What scale is your semi? At 1:16 you can buy differentials and universal joints to work with dual axles but they get expensive. If it's 1:32 then it would be hard to fit one motor/gearbox in let alone 2 and also there is no way to guarantee that they will run at the same speed. If one is slightly slower then you'll always be slightly dragging it but the model is so small it might not bother you.

My scale is 1/32. Looking around for available models and parts I am thinking of shifting to something larger but want to stay in the G scale range. How do you find parts? Siku and others don't seem to have parts page that I can find. Not having any actual model building experiance I am just working with ideas. I received a tractor I was waiting on but I made a mistake and bought a Siku that looked right. "NOT". I took a picture of the motor in a New Ray model semi. How do I put it in a reply here?

Well I had an order of parts from SIKU not arrive so I decided to use this company instead, they have a larger selection as well www.modellbau-schulte.de/shop/ . To post a picture you have to select the reply button in the top right of the quick reply box, that should open the full reply page and on mine there is an option for insert image.

Hello, Just received my John Deere 9560R tractor. Thinking of cost and that they would be about the same I got a ERTL instead of the Siku. I see they are not the same and now wonder if I should look for a Siku. To begin with it doesn't turn as sharp as your Silu. The body is a splt, two piece setup and smaller where the steering servo would go. I guess I could work around those differences but I have some other questions. Is your hood, (engine cover), metal or plastic? Are the fenders metal or plastic? Is the tow hitch or lift specific to Siku for their attachments or trailers? Also my wheels look different. How did you get the wheels off the axle and only power the inside tires? Still working on other parts, and understanding the electronics and radio control. Wondering how Dan is making out with his build.
Regards Bill

I don't know about the differences between ertl and siku models to be honest, only taken apart siku tractors so far myself. Does the bottom of your model screw off?
I don't have it here with me but I'm pretty sure the hood (we call it the bonnet here) is metal on mine and I think the fenders were metal too but I'm not 100% sure on that one.
I know the SIKU hitch is very similar to that of a Britains tractor so I assume this is a standard type hitch/lifting arms for the cheaper model tractors intended to be childrens toys. These would be the most popular brands in toy shops here in Ireland as the attachments are basically interchangeable. The britains ones are maybe not as perfectly moulded as the siku ones so may vary slightly. I've seen on the more expensive models like universal hobbies are more realistic but you can get an adapter to use siku attachments.
I actually have a video for the wheels, might not be relevant for the ertl model but hopefully it helps
To power only the inside wheels I just got an extra long tamiya hex shaft, I took the tamiya hex wheel and drilled out the solid stopper on the end (being careful not to damage the hex connection) so I could push hex wheel along the shaft. I then put the hex wheel on the shaft, put the siku wheel on the shaft beside it so that they were lined up and drilled holes through to bolt them together. If that isn't clear I can take some pictures are the weekend to help if you like?
If you have any other question fire away and I'll answer if I can.

I knew I saw that vidio somewhere but didn't find it yesterday. The wheels are different and have the retainer on the outside somehow. Maybe just a hub type cap. The bottom of the tractor doesn't come off like the Siku. Not sure yet how it comes apart. I guess I have some figuring to do. Thanks anyway.

Yes I'm afraid so, I hope it works out for you. I have so far had to abandon one tractor after I realised there was no way I could fit motors into it, hopefully you wont have to do that.

Hi, Would you tell me the overall dimensions of your Siku 9560R tractor? L,W,H. How does it compare in size or scale to other Siku 1/32 models or other manufacturers?
Thanks Bill

The John Deere is length 250mm from the tip of the weight block to the end of the lifting arms, width is about 150mm and the height is around 120mm. It is much bigger than my other 1:32 models, the fendt is around 170x95x110mm.

Hi, I haven't tried to fit a SIKU motor in but as the motor I used was 3 or 4 times the size I don't think you should have any problems. I only used the tamiya motor because it was cheaper and I had wanted to try it out in something.
