I'm building an RC tractor but instead of using a controller I want to be able to drive it from my computer. Is there an easy way to do this, I haven't got into much of the electronics yet so any advice is appreciated.

If you communicate with it using a radio transceiver module like an XBee, which is what I use, then you can just use an FTDI cable to communicate between the USB port on the computer and the UART input of your first XBee. That XBee will then send the commands to the XBee in your tractor which will communicate with the microchip controlling your tractor. It doesn't have to be an XBee, I just chose it as an example there should be other cheaper modules that would work too.
