Might be a silly question but will I need x2 xbee with the antennas? 1 for the tractor and 1 for the controller. Or will the xbee communicate with an existing controller that I might have laying about? Not looked inside yet but was looking to modify an Xbox controller?
Cheers

I found this instructable www.instructables.com/id/BARC-Jeep-An-XBOX-Controlled-Power-Wheels/step1/Get-the-Xbox-Controller-Communicating-to-the-Ardui/I've never tried it myself but it must be possible. You need a big arduino to do that so I guess you'd make this to take command from the controller but then you'd still need 2 XBees or whatever radio module you use to talk to the tractor. I'm trying out cheaper modules at the minute. My first attempt happened after my good soldering iron failed and the one I used didn't have a particularly fine tip so resulted in a lot of solder bridges and a complete mess so I've ordered a few more for attempt 2. Hopefully get videos on alternatives in the next few weeks.

Haha use make it all look and sound easy. Yeah would be handy as the controller already has the two joysticks + trigger / bumper buttons for lights ect. I have gone all out on xbee and arduino components just sitting waiting on them coming in the post. Will get a play about with them and get the hang of things before I destroy a good tractor.

Well you could always destroy a cheap wired xbox controller in an attempt to control your tractor from it if you were that brave You could take it apart identify the pins of the switches ect and cut into them some way. If you used a wireless one you might even be able to use the controllers batteries and voltage regulator already. I would guess the joysticks and triggers would be easy to hack as they are usually a potentiometer so you can can check which pin is varying voltage when the the jotstick moves, cut it and solder to that. You may have to mount your arduino and xbee externally but would you really care if you had good controls. Now you have me on amazon looking at xbox controllers thinking that would make a good video
