I have a theory that a model loading shovel would work well with pneumatic cylinders lifting the arms and moving the bucket. The reason I am thinking this is because the loading shovel only really required two motions and it has a lot of space in the back especially if you picked a large 1:50 scale model. I think you could easily fit servos and a big ram in the back which you could depress and that would force air into the ram which lifts the arms, similar to legos pneumatic systems. I would expect there would be a lot of loss in the system so I doubt it would have great lifting power but the it would look a lot nice than servos stuck to the arms.
